Jim Crow laws were enacted after Reconstruction. Are you shocked by these accounts of public torture and lynching?

  • If not, why not?
  • If so, what do you find most shocking? (the methods? the audience? the atmosphere? the quasi-official character of the proceedings?)

  1. I'm not surprised because the Europeans didn't see African Americans as people. They were seen as animals. It's not surprising that they weren't treated equal because they weren't seen as equals.

  2. I am shocked because of how immoral it is. They were harming people based on the color of their skin. I am also shocked that the government allowed them to publicly tortured. The part I find the mostp shocking is that people would wtch, I think it is disgusting that they didn't see that it was wrong.

  3. Personally im not surprised by the actions that were inflicted upon African Americas. The Europeans saw them as animals or interior to themselves so they had no problem humiliating and torturing them.
