"And to the Republic for which it stands..."
Welcome to our class blog for U.S. History. As we've studied the years 1492-1776, we've come across stories of turbulance and triumph. The fight for independence against The British provides us with insight of what the colonist dreamed for in regards to this "Free Nation". Which of the Founding Ideas, would you say has been challenged the most in the last 100 years?

equality!
ReplyDeleteI think equality and rights go hand-in-hand, so I say both of those founding ideas have been challenged the most in the last 100 years. Some examples I have are equal rights for colored people, equal rights for women, and we still seem to be struggling with equal rights for gays.

ReplyDeleteI think that in the last one hundred years that equality has been challenged the most beacuse we continue to see people protesting for their rigjt for equality to this day.
ReplyDeleteI believe Liberty is the most challenged founding ideal in the past 100 years...not a year can go by where some citizen is complaining that the gov. has put a unnecessary bound, limit, or made a law that has stood in the way of their pursuit of happiness. Whether its smoking pot, marrying the same sex, ect. Every time you turn around there is somebody who wants something they can't have and often they will take their problem as far as they can and with as many people as will back them up with them.
ReplyDeleteI believe that rights have been challenged the most because in the past 100 years, we see different social and ethnic groups struggle to either gain rights for themselves or to stop certain rights from being given out to others. Like, in example, the Civil Rights Movement, you see African Americans fighting for equal rights under the Constituion, like attending all white schools, and having certain governors or legislators, trying to stop them from doing so,. Also, Ceasar Chavez and the NFWA fought for the right of equal pay and fair treatment for immigrant farm workers in California. Even today, we see people sturggle for certain rights, like the legalization of gay marriage in all states.

In the past 100 years rights have been an obstacle for Africans Americans. Them not being able to have the same right as other Americans. I feel that in the last several years the right have changed for the better. We now have our first African American president. Allot has changed over the past years and there is still more change to be made amongst American lives.
ReplyDeleteI believe it is equality because people still struggle with this like setting lower goals for college requirements for african american students contrasted to other nationalities, and from the civil rights movement and boycotts to have equal treatment!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIn the past 100 years equality has been tested often! Years ago it was about women's rights, colored people's rights, ect. Now it is about same sex marriages, ect.
