3/25 The Cold War Expands

                                                              THE MARSHALL PLAN

America decided that it would ask Congress to appropriate funds to help rebuild Europe after World War II.

Why were we so eager to help? If you were a member of CONGRESS today, would you help a war torn country such as Somalia? Explain.

  1. We were eager to help because millions were suffering and needed help. That's the kind of country we are. It would make the US stronger and in a position to be more powerful so we could ask for trade and weapons in return. We helped because we didn't want communism to grow. Besides, we told them they had to spedn the money on US goods. I would help Somalia because they are a country with a lot of war, hunger and poverty. We would have to help without expecting anything in return but it would stop the war and killing. brandon Jones

  2. i think we were eager to help because they were our allies during the war. And if we help them then they would continue to have our backs in future wars. Also communism was spreading through out the area, and by helping these beaten up european countries they could stop the spread of such a bad way of life that was practiced by the soviets. If i was in congress now it would definitely be a tough decision to send aid or help to those countries. Since the economy is tight and we dont have alot of money, spending it on anything but what would benefit the united states would be dumb.
