  1. There was the Muckrakers that were the journalists who would go undercover to try to expose the bad practices of the rising industries and companies.

  2. The Progressives of the early 20th brought attention by helping those who needs help. They were worried of people’s rights and safety so they tried to help protect people’s rights.

  3. Progressives such as Lester Ward, Charles Beard, Upton Sinclair, and Walter Rauschbusch brought attention to the many problems caused by urbanization. Lester Ward studied social concerns in his books. Charles Beard used his knowledge of American history to reform corrupt city governments. Upton Sinclair, on the other hand, worked undercover among stockyards workers for seven weeks and exposed the horrible working conditions in his book, "The Jungle". Lastly, Walter Rauschenbusch turned to his faith, and the Bible for a proper response to the new industrial system, and believed that "every Christian should strive to better the economic and political working conditions in the world". All of these progressives spoke up and exposed the truth to bring attention to the overwhelming problems caused by urbanization.
