Manifest Destiny

Give your opinion on expansionism in the early 1800's.

  1. the expansion that occurred in the 1800's was growing. the african americans were afraid to go to a state that was not a non slave state.i think that when the african american move to a non slave state they had job opportunities. the african americans life change during the world war one.

  2. To me the whole expansionism in the early 1800's didnt make sense to me. First of all how could we have thought that it was our "destiny" to expand to the west. Also in my opinion, not having the country agree on one choice is a week country. I thought having some slave states and some free states, one of the stupidest choices we made. That had civil war all over it. As for the point of view of an African American, they must've been very happy because now they had the chance to go to live in free states where they werent slaves anymore.

  3. Expansionism is a good thing I believe. It is good because if we never ventured west then we would not be here today! Also if we did not go west then the gold rush would have never happened. Yeah it sucks that there were free states and slave states, but everyone makes mistakes and obviously the U.S. did not know what they were doing!
