3/25: Origins of the Cold War

The Stalin and FDR had an amicable relationship during World War II. After the sudden death of FDR, President Truman had months to catch up on foreign policies that were in place in Europe. The Soviet Ambassador V.M. Molotov reportly disapproved of Truman's agressive tone and stated "I have never been talked to like that in my life."

How did America and the Soviet Union become advesaries? What would make you think twice about a relationship with someone you trust?

  1. The soviet union started to slowly drift away from the united states. They didnt follow some promise they made, which made the united states and. Plus the soviet union was a very communist country and US was very democratic, making things not mush well. The united states started preventing everything having to do with communism, once they were full enemies. If someone i trusted went back on a promise or lied to me, i would not trust them as much anymore. We would not be as close, and depending on what they did we could not even be friends anymore.

  2. The soviet union and the US became advesaries because we didn't trust eachother. Stalin wanted to oppress everyone and take over. We just wanted peace. I think it was about capitalism vs. communism. Stalin thought capitalism was a threat to peace and we thought communisam was a threat to democracy. containment was the only way to secure peace. I'd think twice about a relationship with another country if i found out they were selling intel and telling other countries about our weaknesses. Betrayal is the worst thing to get out of once it happens. Brandon Jones
